About Us

Our commitment to you
Retina Consultants specializes in treatment of diseases that affect the retina, vitreous, and macula. We have earned a reputation for providing the highest quality, compassionate, patient-centered care. Founded in 1978 by Harold A. Woodcome, Jr, MD, and Caldwell W. Smith, MD, ours is the oldest "retina-only" practice in Southeastern New England. We continually strive to serve our patients’ best interests by practicing evidence-based medicine and utilizing the latest proven technologies.

Dr. Altin Pani and Dr. Scott Greenberg are board-certified retina specialists with extensive training.
Doctors
Our doctors are board certified, having undergone extensive training in ophthalmology (diseases and surgery of the eye), followed by highly-specialized training in the field of vitreoretinal surgery. They are members of the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the New England Ophthalmological Society. All of our doctors are members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and have been involved in research and several clinical trials.

Altin Pani, MD
Dr. Pani graduated from Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York. He completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts. He joined the practice in 2012.
 Dr. Pani is on the faculty of Ophthalmology Residency Program at Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

​Scott Greenberg, MD
Dr. Greenberg graduated from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Albany Medical College in New York. Dr. Greenberg joined the practice in 2021. Dr. Greenberg is a Clinical Instructor in the Ophthalmology Residency Program at Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 


Staff
The members of our staff are courteous, efficient professionals, able to assist you in the office and on the telephone with every aspect of your office visit, treatment, follow-up care, and insurance claims.

Doctor-patient relations
We will discuss your condition with you in detail and develop a treatment plan that you find acceptable. Do not hesitate to ask questions. We believe solid doctor-patient relationships are built on mutual understanding. We welcome suggestions or complaints regarding our service.
Second opinions
If you would like a second opinion, do not hesitate to tell us. We can recommend appropriate specialists in the region, and send them information about your case.

Your Privacy

Your medical record is strictly private. No information regarding your condition will be given to your employer, friends, or relatives without your written permission, except when required by law, as in cases involving industrial injuries or assault, for example.
